Alto International School regularly hosts interns from German-speaking countries and universities around the world.

Internships at Alto

Internships typically last three months or longer. While intern observations and practical work will typically focus on one class, every attempt will be made to give interns a well-rounded learning experience in other areas of the school as well. Every intern will be assigned a mentor who will meet with him or her on a regular basis and will provide a written report at the conclusion of the internship.

Interns will be asked to work in a classroom under the direct supervision of an Alto teacher and will be assigned various instructional tasks. Based on experience and confidence, these can vary from teaching a full class, a small group, or an individual student, to assisting in a support role. Interns are expected to show an outstanding attitude, collaboration, and enthusiasm to take on a variety of tasks inside and outside of the classroom. Due to the large number of applicants each year, the school will select only those interns that are the best fit for the school environment.

Good To Know

The school does not provide financial support for interns during their stay. It is the intern’s responsibility to arrive in Menlo Park at his or her own expense. Interns are responsible for their room, board, and transportation. Occasionally Alto families are willing to host an intern, but this is not guaranteed.

Applicants, who are not U.S. citizens, require a visa for an internship at Alto. Please note, that we are currently unable to sponsor visas and that we are only accepting candidates who can obtain a visa through their university or other organization.

What We Are Looking For
