An International Minded Middle and High School Program
Middle and High School: The main language of instruction in middle and high school at Alto is English. Starting with 6th grade Alto offers the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) to local and international English speakers. The MYP extends to grade 10 followed by the IB Diploma in grades 11 & 12.
For everyone: Alto’s middle and high school student body is diverse and consists of students who are native to the Bay Area as well as international students. Although many of our students are bilingual, some students do not speak a 2nd language before entering Alto International School.
Native speakers: Classes in middle and high school are taught by teachers from all over the world, giving students a unique, international perspective on learning and life. Alto’s middle and high school teachers are from Australia, Austria, Columbia, Canada, Britain, Germany, Switzerland and the United States.
Multilingual: In middle and high school students have the option to learn French, Spanish or German as a foreign language. In addition, students who are fluent in German have the opportunity to take certain classes in German besides the required English classes.
Accredited in the U.S. and worldwide: Alto is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO). In addition, Alto’s high school program allows students to fulfill the requirements for applying to University of California colleges. IB Diploma students are recognized as being exceptionally well-prepared to succeed in top colleges and universities in the United States and around the world.
